America stands on the brink of fascism; we cannot overstate our current plight. If we do not deny the GOP a majority, it could be the last legitimate election we see.
Back at the end of 2021, this article appeared in The Guardian. The title reads, "America is now in fascism's legal phase." We urge everyone to read it. It may be nearly a year old, but it is not irrelevant. In fact, things have progressively gotten worse since Trump's departure from office.
While many optimistically believed that all we needed to do was vote him out and everything would be fine, this is not the case. He left behind 147 legislators who literally voted to overturn the legitimate election of Joe Biden. Those GOP legislators who stood up to Donald Trump and voted for impeachment are long gone, either defeated during the primaries by Trump-backed fascists or voluntarily choosing not to run for reelection.
As Donald Trump maintains his stranglehold on the GOP, he continues to travel around the nation whining about a stolen election. Yet, as we continue to investigate the realities of the insurrection and the GOP's involvement with extremists, we are finding that the supposed victims are actually the perpetrators.
The GOP has gained the upper hand in the states and has used that to
assault our freedoms. This has been carefully planned, and their wet dream is to rewrite the Constitution to match their fascist vision for America.
They stacked the Supreme Court, moving it to the far right, with the specific intention of overturning Roe v. Wade. It is now a done deal, and they are going after contraception, same-sex marriage, interracial marriage, and other civil rights that have been won based on privacy. We'd like to point out that everyone's personal privacy is now in jeopardy, not just those in the minority. The door has been opened.
They have made immigrants the target for all the ills in America, much like other fascists throughout history. The GOP's assault on the LGBTQ and transgender community is the most virulent we've seen in decades.
Make no mistake about it: Nobody is safe in a fascist society but other fascists. As Americans, we take voting for granted. We can't afford to do that anymore. In this climate, failure to exercise your right to vote may result in the last free and fair election we ever see.
Are you concerned about your civil rights? If you're a woman, a member of the LGBTQ and trans communities, a Native American, a person of color, a disabled American or anyone who resides outside the defined acceptability of the right you should be concerned. We have the opportunity to elect a more representative government that will reject the move to right-wing authoritarian rule, protect everyone's rights, and solidify democratic rule.
LPAC was formed in 2012 to advocate for the rights of lesbians and to further the cause of women's rights. LPAC is endorsing women up and down the electoral spectrum in the 2022 midterms, from local elections to federal. Some of them are shown below, and we provide a link to the LPAC website where you can check out other LPAC-endorsed candidates. These women will advocate for all of the LGBTQ community and will fight to restore a woman's right to choose.
This is just a sampling of the LPAC-endorsed candidates. You can see them all, at every level of government from local to federal, by visiting the LPAC website.
There is an alternative to fascist rule at every level of government. These Democrats are running to protect this democracy. To put this as simply as we can: The GOP taking back power in either the House or the Senate is game, set and match for governance. It will be two years of retribution, payback and blocking any meaningful legislation that will benefit the American people. It will be the repeal of Obamacare. It could mean putting Social Security and Medicare at risk if Ron Johnson is returned and has his way. It will be a full-frontal assault on the public health and the public school system. It will mean more oppression of women, LGBTQ and transgender Americans, people of color, immigrants and others they consider "undesirables." Sound historically familiar? This is not a drill, people; the groundwork has already been laid. This is happening here in real time.
