Our Evolution

A few years ago, we were called #BecomeUngovernable and were advocating for Direct Democracy. However, we've had our eyes opened by a stream of events that pushed us in a very different direction. One of the most noteworthy of those events was the election of Donald Trump 1.0. The other was the response to the COVID-19 pandemic by the Trump administration, and an American population all too ripe for conspiracy theories. We had a four-year reprieve under Joe Biden, with America recovering from many of the ill effects of Trump's first term, but the seeds of fascism had been sown. Here we are again under Trump 2.0, and this time the guardrails are off and our democracy is on life support. Below are the key events that we cite as turning points on our march to fascism.

Please understand that this is not intended to be a list of the only things that brought us here. It is a list of things that should have shown us where we were headed. Others will be addressed elsewhere in the website.

The Reelection of Donald Trump (Trump 2.0), 2024

As if his first term wasn't bad enough, Trump is back with a second term that promises to be so much worse. American have a very short attention span. They seemed to forget everything that transpired between 2016 and 2024, including his two impeachments, the J6 insurrection, the overturn of Roe v. Wade, his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and fostering The Big Lie about the 2020 election being stolen. They also ignored his 34 felony counts and his sexual assault conviction in the E. Jean Carroll case. During his campaign, he vowed to be a dictator only on his first day. That was another Trump lie as he has flooded the zone with his fascist policies from day one with no end in sight.

As we hit the first 100 days of his second term, he is the most unpopular president in American history and his second term is already at the disaster level as documented here. We have a long way to go, and we will only survive if we stand against Donald Trump and his fascist regime.

The COVID-19 Pandemic, 2020 and Continuing

The pandemic was enough to deal with on its own, but the Trump administration made it so much worse by weaponizing it for political gain. He made it more lethal by continually promoting false cures and the pseudo-scientists behind them, downplaying the seriousness of COVID-19, obstructing the CDC at every opportunity, and vilifying Anthony Fauci, the world's leading infectious disease expert. The fact is that the richest nation in the world already had a substandard health system built around the haves and the have nots. Trump did not alleviate this situation and his mishandling of the COVID 19 pandemic resulted in many more deaths in America than we should have had.

Trump has chosen RFK Jr. to head Health and Human Services. His lies about vaccines during the COVID pandemic have resulted in vaccine skepticism and the resurgence of measles in the United States with more than 800 cases and four recorded deaths as of this writing.

Unite The Right Rally, 2017

The Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville (August 11-12, 2017) was the largest display of hate, racism, antisemitism, and violence that we've seen in decades, bringing together the alt-right, neo-Confederates, neo-fascists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis, Klansmen, and various local right-wing militias. The impetus for this event was the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue from a park in Charlottesville, Virginia, but it turned into a rallying call for white supremacy in America. Frontline, in conjunction with ProPublica, documented this event. We recommend that everyone watch it. The rally turned deadly when a car driven by a white supremacist deliberately rammed a group of counter- protestors, killing one woman and wounding twelve others.

This same energy would later play a part in the January 6, 2021, insurrection -- a day that will (and should) live in infamy as much as Pearl Harbor, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

The Devastating Overturn of Roe v. Wade, 2022

After a half century, a Donald Trump-constructed Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, taking away women's body autonomy and the right to health care. It was a devastating loss that has had so many ill effects for women in America on so many levels. In December 2024, ProPublica put together a comprehensive summary of women who have died as a result of the overturn of Roe. The piece also exposes how states with the strictest abortion bans avoid investigating these deaths on any meaningful level. Other women have broken their silence about the emotional agony of having to carry nonviable pregnancies to term, something that should not happen in any civilized society.

Many abortions are medically necessary. There are countless stories of women who have suffered until they became 'sick enough' for an abortion, and some have died after being denied medical care for their miscarriages. What happened to one woman in Georgia should have been considered criminal itself. Yet, these stories have become all too commonplace.

January 6, 2021 Insurrection,

and the 2025 Pardons

For months after losing to Joe Biden, Donald Trump brainwashed his minions into believing "The Big Lie" that Biden stole the election from him. After months of non-stop lies and propaganda, he encouraged them to take more drastic action at his "Stop the Steal" rally on the day of Biden's election certification. They responded to their fearless leader by storming the Capitol in search those who failed to show loyalty to Trump, resulting in five deaths and offering proof that it can happen here. the one person who could have stopped this event was the then-president, Donald Trump, yet the evidence is overwhelming that he took no action whatsoever, choosing instead to watch it unfold on television.

The singular campaign promise Trump delivered on his very first day was not ending the Ukraine war, but the pardoning of the insurrectionists. Rebuking the rule of law, he returned more than 1,500 adjudicated criminals back into society and left the American people to foot the bill for the insurrection.

The GOP Hands Its Party Over to Trump

The Republican Party had every opportunity to rid themselves of Donald Trump after his 2020 loss. Instead, they welcomed him back with open arms and gave him the keys to the kingdom. Since his inauguration, he has nearly completely bypassed legislative governance and enacted his policies viaExecutive Order. He signed 141 orders in his first 100 days. The GOP legislature is apparently just fine with being by passed and simply jumping to Trump's tune. We have continually heard from Lisa Murkowski that theyare all afraid of him. They have the majority and they, too, have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution and defend democracy. Their job is to serve the people, not a dime-store dictator. Yet, they have failed to do so. They refuse to discuss legislation with the Democrats. The only legislation they pass is what Trump tells them to pass.

At a time in our history when we need people of courage to meet the moment, the citizens have been there on the streets, on the phones, and in town halls, but the GOP is nowhere to be found. They are all either fascists like their leader or capitulating cowards.

We have one clear mission

We must not look ahead to 2028 right now; we absolutely must defeat the GOP in the 2026 midterms

We are not in denial that the system is flawed and requires change. No government is ever perfect. However, we do not believe that fascism 'makes America great again.' Neither do we believe that what the GOP has to offer under Trump is what our forefathers envisioned for this nation. It makes America hate. It is oppressive to those who do not fit the mold of the Christian nationalists, the white supremacists, the militias, and those who wish to redefine what our Democracy was meant to be.

When the right-wing extremists wax poetic about traditional American values and putting America first, it's important to understand what that isreally all about. America First is not only one of the most dangerous right-wing organizations in America, but also a catch-all phrase that is really about returning to a white society with closed borders and removing the "undesirables" from their world.

"Undesirables" are not just people of color. They are women, the marginalized, the mentally ill, the elderly, the physically handicapped, the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, the poor and many others too numerous to mention here.

We the people must meet the moment

Between now and the 2026 midterms, we must be on the streets. Our goal is 11.5 million people strong. We had 5.2 million on the streets in April. We must continually be on the phones to our legislators, both Democratic and Republican, and we absolutely must take every 2025 election seriously, whether it be local, state or federal, until the midterms in 2026.

Get involved with Indivisible and the 50501 movement. The next big event is the national 'No Kings' protest on June 14, 2025. Organize in your communities. Consider small things you can do, like highway overpass protests or organizing a protest outside a legislator's office, or on your town common. Courage is contagious.

The only landslide in November 2024 was in the "did not vote" category

It is unacceptable that nearly 90 million people did not bother to vote in November 2024 knowing exactly who and what we were facing if we failed. We and many others warned that we would be fighting for our very lives, and here we are. We are in the midst of a full-on fascist takeover. This can no longer be denied.

Donald Trump is instituting the policies of Project 2025 via Executive Order rather than by using the legislature, establishing his supreme power. The few pieces of legislation that have been passed are at the dictates of their Fuhrer. The GOP is  a party that is both full-on fascist and completely cowardly. They are content to rubber stamp Trump's destruction of our democracy.

Our goal is quite clear: We must come out in force during the midterms and remove as many members of the GOP from the House and Senate as possible. This will require independents and independent-thinking Republicans to participate as well. Talk to your friends, your neighbors; mobilize them and educate them on how essential their votes are to saving our democracy. Participate in election postcard mailings, phone banking, canvassing and whatever else must be done to get the vote out.

We will talk more about this throughout the website.
